2020 School Closure information

Dear Families,

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your grace and encouragement as we seek to provide solid and up to date information, make wise decisions, and continue to educate your children to the best of our ability during this difficult season.  We ask that you continue to be patient as teachers, staff, and students are all operating in uncharted waters and adjusting their practices as they go.

Continuity of Education:

We are committed to continue educating your children from afar.  At this point, all teachers have communicated expectations to students and families.  You should expect information to continue to be shared via email and included on Sycamore at the very least.  Some teachers may choose to use additional communicaiton tools such as Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, etc., but we have asked them to always communicate assignments on Sycamore.  If you are having trouble accessing assignments, please let us know so that we can follow up and be sure each student has received the needed information.  Teachers will be available via email and Sycamore to answer questions.  (Preschool and elementary may use slightly different methods to communicate the requirements for your children.)  When in doubt, please contact the CCS office between the hours of 7:30a-3:30p for help or to have questions answered.  **UPDATE**: The Governor has issued a "Stay at home" executive order effective from 3/24 to 4/30.  This means that the CCS office will be closed to parents during that time period, but CCS office staff will still be answering phone calls on the main line during office hours.

Use of Sycamore:

When using Sycamore to access information there will be two primary places for you to look.  You will begin by looking at HW/Assignments for each individual student. Then you will go to each class and find any needed documents. 

Steps to find HW/Assignments for your student:

  • Sign in to your family account.
  • Hover your cursor over the picture of your child.
  • From the drop down menu select “HW/Assign”
  • A Pop Up Window will list all HW and Assignments by week. (Be sure all Pop Up Blockers are off)
  • To find information for a specific week select the date using the drop down menus near the top of the window.
  • Select “Go”
  • The Homework or Assignments will be listed
  • If you have trouble, please call the CCS office between the hours of 7:30a-3:30p

Steps to find needed documents to complete the assignments:

  • Sign in to your family account.
  • Hover your cursor over the picture of your child.
  • From the drop down menu select “Schedule”
  • A Pop Up Window will bring up your child’s schedule. 
  • Find the classes listed under Semester 2.
  • Select the class your child is working on.
  • Select the documents tab. 
  • Documents for that particular class will be listed. 
  • You will need to follow these steps for each your child’s classes.
  • If you have trouble, please call the CCS office between the hours of 7:30a-3:30p

Athletics: All athletic events are cancelled for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year, per the MHSAA.

Office Hours: The office will be open (for phone calls only) from 7:30 am until 3:30pm Monday through Friday for the duration of the school year.

Follies: This event is cancelled until 2020-21.

Students: At no point during the closure period will students be allowed to enter the building for any purpose.  (The shelter in place order that went into effect on 3/23, and has been extended through 4/30, means that no members of the public will be allowed into the building during this period).

Spring Break: No changes have been made to Spring Break dates, they remain the same as originally scheduled.

Extended School Year: There are no plans to extend the school year.

Mission and End of the Year Trips: All mission trips and end of the year trips have been cancelled until 2020-21.


Parents, you are, and always have been, the primary educator in the lives of your children.  You have been given a huge responsibility during the final months of this school year.  Please do everything you can to keep a schedule of educational activities at home.  We will work in partnership with you giving you resources so you will be supported.

We recognize this situation is putting unique pressure on families, and we are working hard to make sure the work load we provide is not overwhelming and does not create undue burden on families.

We reminded our staff and students today that God is not surprised by any of this.  We have been, and remain in, the palm of His mighty hands.  We can walk forward with confidence and peace in the face of this unknown.  We will continue to uplift each of our families in prayer.  If we can be of any assistance to you during this closure period, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
